Love Island USA Shocker: Cierra Ortega Removed Due to Old Social Media!
Fans of Love Island USA Season 7 were left surprised by the sudden departure of Islander Cierra Ortega in a recent episode. While narrator Iain Stirling announced her exit was due to a "personal reason," social media quickly erupted with the real explanation: resurfaced problematic posts from Ortega's past.

Cierra Ortega was removed from the Love Island USA villa on Sunday, July 6, following widespread backlash over the discovery of racist language in her old social media content. The 25-year-old content creator from Phoenix reportedly used a derogatory anti-Asian slur in posts dating back to 2015 and 2020.

The Content of the Controversial Posts

One resurfaced Instagram Story from 2015 allegedly showed Ortega writing "Still chkin' at the top," in reference to her smile. A 2020 TikTok video also reportedly featured her saying, "I can also be a little chky when I laugh/smile so I love getting a mini brow lift," again using the same offensive term in the context of cosmetic treatments.

These posts quickly went viral, leading to an immediate and intense backlash from fans across X (formerly Twitter) and TikTok. Ortega reportedly lost nearly 200,000 Instagram followers in just 48 hours as calls for her removal from the show intensified. Many fans highlighted that she had used the slur on multiple occasions over several years, drawing comparisons to the earlier exit of contestant Yulissa Escobar, who was removed from the season for using another racial slur.

Production's Swift Response and Official Statement

Amidst the growing controversy and "crisis meetings," producers of Love Island USA made the decision to remove Ortega from the villa. A production insider was quoted stating, "This kind of language is unacceptable… We had no choice but to act."

On screen, host Iain Stirling informed viewers that Cierra had "left the villa due to a personal reason," without detailing the specific cause. This left her season-long partner, Nic Vansteenberghe, single. Host Ariana Madix also addressed accusations of silence regarding the situation, commenting on Instagram, "Not silent. You don't know what you're talking about."

Cierra Ortega's departure marks the second contestant removal this season due to past problematic social media behavior, underscoring the ongoing challenges faced by reality TV shows in vetting contestants and responding to public outcry over discriminatory language. While Ortega herself has not yet made a public statement since her removal, her parents issued a statement via her Instagram Stories, acknowledging the anger and hurt but also condemning the threats and hate directed at their daughter. They stated that Cierra would address the matter "with honesty, growth, and grace" upon her return and asked for "compassion, patience, and basic human decency."

The incident has reignited discussions about accountability for past online behavior and the responsibility of reality television platforms in promoting inclusive environments.
