Bhatt vs. Baburao: Gulshan Grover's Unexpected Career Crossroads!
Wed April 02nd, 2025
Recently, veteran actor Gulshan Grover - who played the iconic antagonist Kabira in Priyadarshan's 2000 masterpiece Hera Pheri - shared an intriguing story. In a recent interview, he disclosed that a scheduling dispute cost him a part in the highly regarded, National Award-winning film Zakhm, directed by his favorite Mahesh Bhatt. Saurabh Shukla ultimately won the role.
In an interview with a tabloid, Gulshan Grover recalled how his devotion to Hera Pheri ultimately cost him the chance to get a part in Zakhm, which starred Ajay Devgn in the major role.
He clarified that he had scheduled his time to film Hera Pheri from 7 AM to 12 PM. He was then scheduled to join Mahesh Bhatt at 1 PM to play the Sardar role, which ultimately went to Saurabh Shukla.
Grover said there would have been a bigger chance for him if he had accepted the position at Zakhm. He was told when he got to the scene, though, that the shoot wouldn't start until 12 PM, which went against his earlier agreement.
The Standard Mill set, which the filmmakers planned to use for important scenes, needed natural sunlight at a particular angle, which caused the delay.
He explained his predicament by saying that he was burdened by his own work obligations as the film crew waited for the ideal sunbeam. He eventually left the project since the team argued that he couldn't depart at 12 PM every day because the sun didn't reach the appropriate position before then.
Gulshan Grover disclosed that Mahesh Bhatt, the director, was the one who finally suggested that he give Hera Pheri more importance than Zakhm. He revealed that the scheduling dispute was still being discussed by Bhatt, production managers, and producers.
Grover sought assistance from the director, whom he views as a godfather and frequently consults for both career and personal guidance. Grover was forced to leave Zakhm and commit to filming Hera Pheri's climax over ten days when Mahesh Bhatt failed to change the shoot dates.
