The Unspoken Truth: Matty Healy's Friend and Taylor Swift's TTPD!
Many people are speculating about the lyrical inspirations of Taylor Swift's most recent album, The Tortured Poets Department, especially in light of her previous relationship with Matty Healy of The 1975. Healy's close friend Lucy Dacus was one name that caught the attention of the title tune. Dacus has now acknowledged that Swift directly asked for her consent before mentioning her by name in the song.

The 29-year-old member of the Boygenius band verified the reference in an interview with a daily that was released on Thursday, saying, “It’s fair game.” She also shared that Swift, 35, had texted her beforehand to ask for her approval.

“She actually texted me and asked for my approval,” Dacus told, remembering how surreal it was to hear her own name in the song. In The Tortured Poets Department, Swift sings, “But you told Lucy you’d kill yourself if I ever leave / And I had said that to Jack about you, so I felt seen.”

Dacus acknowledged that it felt "really weird" to hear herself named in a Swift song. "This is the first Taylor record that has been released since I met her, and listening to a friend's record feels so different than listening to a stranger's record," she explained.

A public argument on X (previously Twitter) in 2023 is said to have caused Dacus and Healy's friendship to deteriorate. In response to Healy's quip about forming a band influenced by Boygenius, Dacus snapped, "You don't hear from me at all." Healy deactivated his account as a result, which fueled rumors of a falling out.

The lyrics of Swift's The Tortured Poets Department are incredibly intimate, and fans have theorized that several of the songs—such as Guilty as Sin?, Down Bad, and The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived—all allude to Healy.
