The previous two movies in the Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster franchise by Tigmanshu Dhulia, had been highly enjoyable and engaging. Now, the third installment gets bigger with megastar Sanjay Dutt who is playing a key role in it. Director Tigmanshu Dhulia wastes no time in setting the stage for a confrontational drama of power-hungry men and women who will stop at nothing to get what they want. The story of 3rd part begins on a different note, and takes an unpredictable route to unravelling newer facets of its multi-layered characters. Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster 3 is royally unpredictable.
As per story, with Aditya Pratap Singh (Jimmy Sheirgill) languishing in jail, his wife Madhavi Devi (Mahie Gill) has become a political force to reckon with and wants to maintain the status quo. But when she discovers that Aditya is getting acquitted and will be back to reclaim his position, she decides to team up with banished prince Uday (Sanjay Dutt), a London-based club owner, who makes obscene amounts of money by playing Russian roulette, to get rid of her husband.
Following a fracas, Uday has to relocate to India and therein follows a game of betrayal, intrigue and palace politics as all the characters indulge in a game of one-upmanship. Who will emerge victorious? The Saheb, the Biwi or the Gangster?
Jimmy Sheirgill’s act as Saheb is remarkable again. Jimmy manages to maintain again an aura of regal egotism, which is quite remarkable. Mahie Gill’s act as the Biwi is refreshingly menacing and quirky. As Kabir aka Baba, Sanjay Dutt is not quite the gangster but more of a stylish baddie, who has a heart and a temper that always spells trouble. As for Sanjay Dutt, though he fills up the screen with his striking physical presence, he seems little exhausted in few scenes. Chitrangda Singh looks unquestionably gorgeous in her ‘mujre-wali’ character Suhani. The rest of the cast including Deepak Tijori, Kabir Bedi, Nafisa Ali and others are OK as per narrative.
The movie starts off on a promising note, it wanders into many directions and at times, it becomes hard to keep track of who is doing what to whom and why. The plot lacks finesse. Numerous situations and plot points have not been clarified at all. But the writers Sanjay Chouhan and Tigmanshu Dhulia manage to stay ahead of the curve with taut writing and an unpredictable narrative. The music is not as per expectations. It has the crisp punch-packed dialogues, which are less dramatic and more effective. Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster 3 successfully takes the legacy forward with minor bumps on the way.
Overall, Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster 3 is a good film with a few good performances and engaging screenplay.
