A City United: Birmingham, Family, and Fans Pay Heartfelt Tribute to Ozzy Osbourne! Thu July 31st, 2025
A City United: Birmingham, Family, and Fans Pay Heartfelt Tribute to Ozzy Osbourne!

The heavy metal world united in a poignant and powerful farewell yesterday as thousands of fans, alongside family members including Sharon and Aimee Osbourne, and rock giants like Metallica, gathered in Birmingham to honor the late, legendary Ozzy Osbourne. The public funeral procession through his beloved hometown was a testament to the enduring legacy of the Black Sabbath frontman, who passed away on July 22 at the age of 76.

The streets of Birmingham were a sea of black, filled with emotional fans chanting "Ozzy, Ozzy, Ozzy, oi, oi, oi" as the hearse, adorned with purple flowers spelling out "Ozzy," made its way through the city. The atmosphere, though heavy with grief, also echoed Ozzy's own wishes for a "celebration, not a mope-fest," as a local brass band, Bostin' Brass, played Black Sabbath classics like "Iron Man."

Family United in Grief and Tribute

Leading the solemn procession were Ozzy's wife, Sharon Osbourne, and their children, Kelly, Jack, and Aimee Osbourne, who rarely makes public appearances. Sharon, visibly emotional, held together by Kelly and Jack, laid purple flowers at the Black Sabbath Bridge and bench, a poignant memorial where fans have flocked since Ozzy's passing. Each family member paid a deeply personal homage to the rock icon:

  • Sharon Osbourne wore a long gold chain holding a large diamond wedding ring, believed to be Ozzy's, an emblem of their 43-year marriage.
  • Kelly Osbourne channeled her father's iconic style with round, purple-tinted sunglasses.
  • Aimee Osbourne, in a rare public appearance, pinned a bat-shaped brooch to her black blazer, a powerful and haunting reference to Ozzy's infamous 1982 concert moment.
  • Jack Osbourne wore an all-black ensemble with a silver cross pinned to his tie, a subtle nod to his father's frequent cross jewelry.
  • Louis Osbourne, Ozzy's son from a previous marriage, sported a purple tie adorned with skull and crossbones.

The sight of the Osbournes united in their grief, acknowledging the immense crowd with peace signs and heartfelt gratitude, resonated deeply with fans worldwide.

Metallica and the Legacy Lives On

While not physically present at the procession, members of Metallica, who recently shared the stage with Ozzy at the "Back to the Beginning" concert in Birmingham just weeks before his passing, paid their own heartfelt tributes. Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo, who toured with Ozzy from 1996 to 2003, expressed immense gratitude for Ozzy's mentorship and profound impact on his career. "Ozzy was a humble man and sometimes so honest it hurt but his sense of humor made everything absolutely amazing," Trujillo wrote on Instagram, calling Ozzy and Black Sabbath "the soundtrack to our lives."

The "Back to the Beginning" concert, which also featured other rock giants, served as a final, monumental performance for Ozzy and Black Sabbath, a fitting "swan song" in the city where it all began. The massive turnout at the funeral procession, coupled with the outpouring of tributes from across the music industry and around the globe, solidified Ozzy Osbourne's untouchable status as the "Prince of Darkness" and an enduring icon of heavy metal.

Ozzy Osbourne's private funeral service is scheduled to take place today in Buckinghamshire, but yesterday's public farewell in Birmingham ensured that the world had its moment to grieve and celebrate the life of a true rock legend.
