The Royal Hurdle: Ishaan Khatter's First 'Impossible' Challenge on Set! Mon April 21st, 2025

With his new series, The Royals, in which he will portray a prince with Bhumi Pednekar, Ishaan Khatter is expected to delight audiences. The actor will enter the realm of monarchy in a never-before-seen avatar in the show. He talked about the 'daunting' effort he had to prepare for this role before the series premiered.

Even if the world of Ishaan Khatter's character Aviraj differs from his own, the actor acknowledges that he sees parallels between the two. He said that both he and his character are emotionally charged individuals in an interview with a daily. However, as he matures emotionally, he makes an effort to perform better—unlike his on-screen persona, who keeps everything "bottled up."

The actor from Dhadak said he couldn't identify with his character's "desperate need" to flee from himself because he doesn't feel the need to do so. He also discussed the difficulties he encountered in getting ready for the starring part.

"Learning polo and appearing to play it like a pro in the short span of two and a half months was the first impossible task that was set before me. It was very daunting and scary. Now that we have completed the task, I’m happy to report that we really managed to get as good as I possibly could. It was a whole lot of fun," he revealed.

Ishaan also discussed his thoughts on working in a longer format. Ishaan has already acted in OTT programs including A Suitable Boy. According to him, long-form content gives actors the opportunity to delve further into each role, particularly in an ensemble like The Royals, and to examine and explain their character's story.

He concluded by pointing out that the difficulty of conveying complex and nuanced emotions in a brief amount of time calls for a higher degree of creativity and skill.

Bhumi Pednekar, Zeenat Aman, Sakshi Tanwar, Milind Soman, Dino Morea, Lisa Mishra, Nora Fatehi, Kavya Trehan, Vihaan Samat, Chunky Panday, and Luke Kenny all play important roles in The Royals, which was directed by Priyanka Ghose and Nupur Asthana. Netflix is scheduled to distribute it on May 9, 2025.
