Vicky Kaushal and Rashmika Mandanna's "Chhaava" Loses a Scene After Controversy!
Recently, the directors of the film Chhaava, starring Vicky Kaushal, Rashmika Mandanna, and Akshaye Khanna, came under fire from Maharashtra Minister Uday Samant for including a dance scene on Sambhaji Maharaj. After meeting with MNS head Raj Thackeray, filmmaker Laxman Utekar announced that the sequence would be removed from the movie.
Following his meeting with MNS head Raj Thackeray, director Laxman Utekar spoke to the media on January 27. He affirmed that Sambhaji Maharaj, played by Vicky Kaushal, and his wife, Maharani Yesubai, played by Rashmika Mandanna, will not be seen doing a Lezim dance in the movie.
The filmmaker told the media in an official statement that nothing matters more than the Maratha King's legacy and that it was only a dance scene. He said that he had met "an avid reader and studious person" named Raj Thackeray.
"So I have taken some suggestions and guidance from him. And I can say, his words are very helpful for me. And after meeting him, I have decided to delete those scenes where we have shown Sambhaji Maharaj was playing Lezim dance," the director revealed in a statement.
"Sambhaji Maharaj is very much bigger than that Lezim dance. So we are going to remove those scenes from the film," he revealed.
Furthermore, he disclosed in an interview with a media outlet that Raj Thackeray also found the movie's trailer appealing. According to Utkar, the well-known politician is just as "excited" about the historical drama. He said that he was appreciative of the "valid point" that he had made and recommended that the dance section be cut.
For those who are unfamiliar, Lezim Dance is a traditional Maharashtrian dance style that involves holding a little musical instrument called the Lezim, which has jingling cymbals. Utekar claims that during filming, he noticed nothing wrong with the scene since he thought that Sambhaji Maharaj, as the leader of the people, would have likely joined in the celebration by dancing with his followers as well.
In addition to Vicky Kaushal, Akshaye Khanna, and Rashmika Mandanna, Ashutosh Rana, Diana Penty, and Divya Dutta play important roles in Chhaava. It is scheduled for release on February 14, 2025, next month, and is supported by Maddock Films, which is run by Dinesh Vijans.
