Hollywood Shaken: Tom Hanks Returns His Prestigious Awards!

With his two Academy Awards, Tom Hanks, one of Hollywood's most renowned performers, took an unexpected turn. He returned them to the Academy years after he had won them. However, the explanation wasn't what most people would anticipate.
The Forrest Gump actor didn't give them back out of remorse or protest. Rather, his Oscars were disintegrating. Years of handling had caused the golden statues he had won for Philadelphia (1994) and Forrest Gump (1995) to begin to rust. Although Hanks hadn't expected it, the Academy had a remedy.

One of the few celebrities to win two Academy Awards in a row is Hanks. He won Best Actor for his portrayal in Philadelphia in 1994, and he did it again with Forrest Gump in 1995. We are aware that Forrest Gump in particular rose to fame. Furthermore, many people still praise the actor's performance now.
Hanks saw an issue after showing off his Oscars with pride for years. The plating of gold was fading. He subsequently clarified that the cause was natural oils and human perspiration. “My Oscars are a little old,” Hanks said, as reported by a media source. “When you get one, the sweat in your hands have a certain level of acidity or some alkaline so when you grab them…that sweat and the chemicals in your body begin to immediately corrode the gold.”
He sent them back to the Academy for restoration after realizing the damage. Hanks anticipated that the Academy would polish his Oscars and send them back to him. Rather, they informed him that it might be prudent to replace the prizes because they were in such poor condition. “I got the word back…they said they were in such bad shape, they would be happy to just give me replacements,” Hanks remembered.
However, the actor had no desire to acquire new ones. There was history behind his Oscars. On those nights that defined his career, he was given those very awards. “They got serial numbers on them,” he told, highlighting their significance. Hanks requested that the Academy replace the original awards rather than accept substitutes. Finally, after all the turmoil, he decided that no one should ever touch them again.
