Director Brian Taylor reveals about the theme of film Hellboy: The Crooked Man!

The director of Hellboy: The Crooked Man made sure the movie adhered to the concept of the original Mike Mignola comic book and did not try to imitate the three live-action pictures that came before it. Brian Taylor gave an explanation of his decision to authentically adapt The Crooked Man comic book instead of making references to other films in a media chat.

"That means it’s a period piece, it's a younger Hellboy, and it has no relation to the other films," he stated.

According to Taylor, the Dark Horse Comics superhero is "like a wandering nightstalker" who just so happens to be in a town where people are having trouble with evil powers and steps in to help as their "plumber" in order to solve issues.

The director thinks that kind of Hellboy is appealing, and he hopes the audience feels the same way. Taylor is hoping that Mignola, the original creator of comic books, will approve of his portrayal of the guarded yet short-tempered figure.

“My approach was to have an audience of one. If Mike Mignola feels like this is his Hellboy, then I feel like we succeeded," he further revealed.

Hellboy: The Crooked Man, which is based on the eponymous limited series, follows Hellboy and a rookie agent of the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense in the 1950s. The two become lost in rural Appalachia and come upon a little village ruled by The Crooked Man, a local demon who used to be one of Hellboy's archenemies. The village is also haunted by witches.

Although a release date for Hellboy: The Crooked Man is not yet known, it is anticipated to happen later this year.
