ABOUT PHOBIA

MOVIE RATING
Director Pavan Kripalani, who made his debut with the scary Ragini MMS' and later fumbled the ball with Darr At The Mall, comes up as a saviour for admirers of this genre with Phobia, a movie that is guaranteed to raise the hair on the back of your neck and make you dig your claws in the armrest of your seat with enjoyable fear.

Mehak Deo (Radhika Apte), an artist, starts suffering from agoraphobia after being physically abused by a cab-driver one night on her way back from a party. When her condition threatens to strain relations with her sister, who she stays with, her friend Shaan (Satyadeep Mishra) suggests that she move in a house on rent so that she can deal with her issues on her own.

But, this move deteriorates the situation as Mehak starts getting visions, which seem to hint that the previous tenant, who has apparently disappeared, has been murdered by her neighbor (Ankur Vikal). Her belief is further strengthened by the discovery of the previous tenant's diary, which seems to contain incriminating evidence against the creepy neighbor.

How Mehak tries to unravel the mystery of the missing tenant with the help of a teenager named Nikki (Yashaswani Dayama) from the same building, forms the rest of the plot.

Radhika Apte has been proving her acting skills since her Shor In The City' days and the actress is in top form as the central character Mehak, who believes that there is something wrong in the house she is residing in. Apte takes you on a voyage of fear and makes you gasp and cringe along with her.

Mishra too puts in a solid performance while Dayama is happily supportive as the nosy neighbor, who is not above breaking into a neighbour's house to solve a mystery. Vikal as the eerie neighbor is bang on and we really hope we get to see more of this actor in days to come.

Pavan effrorts are praiseworthy for coming up with a spine-chilling thriller, which doesn't need spooky mansions or creaking doors to scare you. The whole plot is set inside an apartment and though it will bring to mind other such movies like Kaun and Paranormal Activity, Phobia is in a league of its own. The editing is super crisp and at no point in time will you be tempted to take a popcorn break. The thrill factor in the movie is super and Pavan has done a great job of rising the tension and making it a part of every scene. The beauty of this movie is that at times, you determine that it's a psychological thriller and in the next scene, you are convinced that it is a horror thriller. Pavan successfully keeps you on your toes and scares you with the sufficient twists and turns.

Overall, film Phobia is praiseworthy to watch once for a few good performances and thrilling experience.
