ABOUT DHANAK

MOVIE RATING
There are few movies which feed your soul. They make you content, they motivate you and most importantly, they endorse your faith in human relationships.

Nagesh Kukunoor's newest venture Dhanak is one such movie.

It's an appealing story about brother-sister bonding, about love, hope and all things bright and beautiful.

One thing as a filmmaker that Kuknoor does astonishingly well is that he shows you that a movie doesn't have to be high on drama and emotion to capture one's attention.

It is said that movies with kids or animals in the lead roles are the hardest to make, but when you have a master filmmaker like Nagesh Kukunoor at the helm, it can be assured that the movie will be one that will make a special place in your heart and Dhanak is an example of this fact.

Set in the sandy locales of Rajasthan, Dhanak revolves around Pari (Hetal Gada), a die-hard Shah Rukh Khan fan and her visually impaired younger brother Chotu (Krrish Chhabria), who swears by Salman Khan. The two orphans live with their paternal uncle (Vipin Sharma) in a village in Rajasthan and live a comparatively happy life despite the hardships that they encounter daily.

When Pari spots a poster featuring SRK advising people to participate in an eye donation camp, the little girl is convinced that her hero can help Chotu regain his eyesight and the two kids run away from home to meet Khan, who is apparently shooting for a movie in Jaisalmer.

Armed with nothing but determination and faith, the two kids trek across Rajasthan and come across numerous characters on their way to Jaisalmer. But will the kids get to meet SRK? Watch the movie to find out…

Krrish and Hetal, who have made their debuts with this movie, are fantastic in their roles and simply win your heart over with their wide-eyed simplicity coupled with their talent. Krrish has played the role of a visually impaired boy like a pro and it is tough to believe that this is his first movie while Hetal is the elder sister every guy wanted as a little teenager.

The banter between the siblings as they argue about their favourite superstars, is highly entertaining and will assuredly remind you of your childhood days. Their characters are so delightful that despite knowing that the movie is a work of fiction, you will find yourself rooting for them and hoping for their success. The movie also stars actors such as Vipin Sharma, Ninad Kamat, Vibha Chibber, Vijay Maurya and others and all have done a brilliant job in their short roles.

The beauty of the movie lies in Kukunoor's ability in weaving a story, which is not only an optimistic fare, but also contains a sense of adventure as the two courageous kids set out on their 'mission'. Nagesh deserves praise for coming up with lovely characters and making them absolutely believable and real.

Apart from exploring human relationships, Kukunoor has captured the deserts of Rajasthan amazingly. Dhanak will also make you fall in love with Rajasthani folk songs.

Hetal Gada and Krrish Chhabria deliver terrific acts. Their innocence, and their maturity, will warm your hearts.

From cinematography to performances to music, everything syncs in flawlessly and quite naturally.

But, the second half did seem a bit sluggish in comparison to the first. Also, the back story of how Chotu loses his eyesight is hard to understand.

But these elements do not hamper the flow of the story or it’s magic.

If the trailer of the movie made you think that it is a movie only for children, you are sorely mistaken. Dhanak, which has bagged many awards at international film festivals, is most absolutely a film for the whole family.

Overall, it is worthy to watch once for a heart-warming tale of love and hope with the terrific performances of Hetal Gada and Krrish Chhabria.
