Queen Latifah is preparing to bring her life story to the big screen in a new biopic, the first of a planned series of films about hip-hop icons.
According to a tabloid, as part of a wider contract with would Smith's Westbrook Studios, Jesse Collins Entertainment and HarbourView Equity Partners would film a series of biopics about hip-hop musicians' lives and careers. On Thursday, September 19, Latifah, 54, and her partner Shakim Compere of Flavor Unit Entertainment revealed that they will create a biopic about the Chicago star's life.
Latifah and Smith will be experiencing a full circle experience, since she scored one of her first TV roles on his iconic NBC sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. The New Jersey native was among the first hip-hop musicians to break into mainstream culture in the late 1980s and early 1990s, when hip-hop became increasingly popular in everyday American life.
The film will follow Latifah's journey to become an actor, rapper, and singer. Latifah, real name Dana Elaine Owens, emerged to prominence in 1989, when her debut album All Hail the Queen was published.
There is presently no information available about casting, who will write and direct the future biopic, or what other projects the production companies will collaborate on.
