Akansha Ranjan Kapoor didn't anticipate being so literally pushed out of her comfort zone when she signed on to play Gram Chikitsalay. The actor had to learn how to ride a scooty, something she had never done before, in order to give her role credibility.
Prime Video's next slice-of-life series, Gram Chikitsalay, is set in the Indian heartland and examines the rural healthcare system. Akansha portrays Dr. Gargi, a young physician in a far-flung village, in the program. However, she needed to physically embody Gargi, complete with scooty rides, in order to fully embody the character.
Akansha recounted that director Rahul Pandey asked her if she knew how to ride a two-wheeler in passing during their first meeting. He immediately learned it when she said no. She initially believed he wasn't sincere. However, the remark struck a different chord when he joked that she might lose the show if she didn't learn. It seemed like a task.
For Akansha, who had never even ridden a bicycle, riding a scooty seemed like a great jump, even though it could look easy to others. She had never imagined herself on a two-wheeler, much less riding one on camera, because she had always been terrified of them. However, she chose to accept the dread rather than run away.
She practiced riding for a month, gradually gaining the self-assurance to operate the scooty alone. She insisted on doing it herself even when the crew brought in a body duplicate to capture the sequence. She wasn't going to let anyone else take her spot because she had spent weeks getting ready for that moment.
Akansha loved every minute of the action, even if it took hours to shoot. She found it to be among the most fulfilling aspects of her time on set. The actress is pleased to have conquered a long-standing phobia of the part and acquired a new talent that she might not have otherwise acquired.
Amol Parashar and Vinay Pathak are also featured in Gram Chikitsalay, which was directed by Rahul Pandey and written by Deepak Kumar Mishra. The show centers on Dr. Prabhat, a physician from the city who manages a dilapidated Primary Health Center in the village of Bhathkandi. Alongside Anandeshwar Dwivedi, Akash Makhija, and Garima Vikrant Singh, Akansha plays a crucial part.
