After starring in television serial operas such as Kahiin To Hoga, Rajeev Khandelwal rose to fame. Years after dominating Indian television, the actor starred in his first motion picture, Aamir, in 2008. However, despite his popularity, he had trouble finding producers who would support the movie.
When Rajeev Khandelwal starred in his first Hindi film, Aamir, in 2008, his career took a turn for the better. In an interview with a media source, he did, however, recollect that nobody, with the exception of director Anurag Kashyap, had enough faith in him to support his first picture, Aamir. According to him, producers were willing to finance the movie if it starred a rookie rather than a well-known TV personality.
A daily quoted him saying, “When I was doing Aamir, Anurag Kashyap told me later that he went to so many producers and my character on television was very very popular. He said, ‘I went from pillar to post and I said I have Rajeev Khandelwal here, who is very popular and they said we don’t want popular… even if you take a newcomer, it’s fine with us but TV actor, maybe no’.”
The actor continued by stating that, generally speaking, it is hard to persuade the filmmakers to give performers like him the chance to show the world that, likely, they are much more than how they appear. “That is more difficult than the audience’s acceptance,” he revealed.
