"Raste ki parwah karunga to manzil bura maan jayegi," is a memorable line from Emraan Hashmi's Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai, which Milan Luthria directed. In the 2010 movie, Emraan portrayed Shoaib Khan, a figure based on Dawood Ibrahim.
The actor previously talked about how his uncle, director Mahesh Bhatt, was concerned about his decision to take on the role.
Mahesh Bhatt expressed uncertainty about his role as Shoaib Khan in Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai to Emraan Hashmi during a recent chat. Shoaib, in Bhatt's opinion, was a "grey" persona, which would alter how the public saw him as an actor.
Emraan, quoting the director, stated, "If you play this character, your career will be over." He added, "Unko kuch reservations this character ko lekar (He had reservations about the character)."
Upon hearing Milan Luthria's script, Bhatt believed the character was unredeemable. The actor from Murder remembered what he had said. "Jisse aapne ye play kar lia toh aap hamari films mein jo grey shades hain unmein to redemption hota hai lekin usmein audience ka perception aapka overnight badal jaayega (this character will change people’s perception of you overnight)."
