Hirani's 'Inception' Moment with PK: Director's Candid Confession!

One of Bollywood's most well-known directors, Rajkumar Hirani, is credited with producing successful movies like 3 Idiots and Munna Bhai MBBS. In a recent interview, he disclosed that he had to change the script for PK, which was originally slated to include Aamir Khan as an extraterrestrial, because it was remarkably similar to Christopher Nolan's Inception.
Rajkumar Hirani disclosed that he became aware of the remarkable parallels between PK and Inception while he was writing the script for the latter. He decided to change the plot to avoid any accusations of copying. Speaking with a media source, he revealed that the original idea of PK was for the protagonist to enter people's heads and change their past experiences, which would ultimately change how they saw the world.
But he and his crew quickly realized that this concept was quite similar to Inception, so they changed the script to make it unique.
According to Hirani, they tried a different plot in which PK finds himself in a courtroom after noticing parallels with Inception. “We started writing something else. Then OMG – Oh My God came, which is also… We had waked that path also, of him going to the courtroom. So, the second half kept on changing," he said.
For the second part of the movie, the director disclosed that they tried several different variations but couldn't come up with a workable solution. They videotaped it at first, but he wasn't really happy with the outcome, he said. They ultimately had to reshoot around 20 minutes of material as a result, which greatly extended the production schedule.
Rajkumar stated in a media interview that the crew purposefully decided not to divulge the film's main theme—God and religion—prior to its premiere. Instead than giving it away right away, he said, they wanted the audience to find it on their own.
According to Hirani, this secrecy sparked a number of rumors, with some thinking the film would be about an alien, an inebriated person, or an eccentric character portrayed by Aamir Khan.
