JAB HARRY MET SEJAL

Jab Harry Met Sejal

ABOUT JAB HARRY MET SEJAL

MOVIE RATING
After huge expectation and conjecture, director Imtiaz Ali’s newest venture Jab Harry Met Sejal released on August 4. Unnecessary to say the anticipations from the movie were very high and fans waited with bated breath to watch their favourite actor romance on screen again. But it seems like things did not really go as on would have hoped as the movie has been receiving brickbats from both critics and the audience.

Earlier, Imtiaz Ali has explored the dilemma of confused people in love and on some kind of a journey in his movies and his newest offering Jab Harry Met Sejal is no different. But will this movie prove to be as successful as his previous movies?

The film revolves around Harry (Shah Rukh Khan) who is a tour guide in Europe and Sejal (Anushka Sharma) who is a Gujarati chatterbox walks into his life. Harry is going through what seems like a mid-life crisis when Sejal (Anushka Sharma) walks into his life and demands that he help her find her engagement ring, which she has lost somewhere. The initially unwilling Harry agrees to help her when she threatens to complain about him to his boss and the two embark on a journey to find the ring.

When it comes to passionate romance and cynical humour, Shah Rukh Khan has no equal and the Baadshah of Bollywood unleashes both in his role as the slightly cynical Harry, who is forced to put up with the sociable Sejal. SRK seems to be growing fine with age and it is a treat to watch him in the movie. As for Anushka, though her heavy Gujarati accent is a bit fake, there is a certain cuteness about her, which is really engaging. The highlight of the movie is definitely their chemistry and their banter, which is completely enjoyable.

As for the movie itself, there is no doubt that Jab Harry Met Sejal is quite a pretty movie, but it must be said that the love story is not so great. Sejal, who misses her flight and comes back to search for her lost ring, seems more interested in hanging out with Harry and prying about his life than looking for the ring. Later, Sejal seems smitten with Harry from day one, even though she is happily engaged. Also, the way the two grow close to each other, doesn’t seem convincing at all and though the narrative is engaging in places, it lacks conviction.

Pritam’s songs are tuneful enough to entertain.

In general, it is worthy to watch once for SRK’s cynical humour and his on-screen chemistry with Anushka.
