ABOUT AIYAARY
After the success of A Wednesday, debutant director Neeraj Pandey had become a known face of the Bollywood. After that, he also praised for his hit sagas as Special 26 and Baby. Now his latest outing is film Aiyaary with big stars like Sidharth Malhotra, Manoj Bajpayee and Rakul Preet Singh.
As per story, Major Jai Bakshi (Sidharth Malhotra) respects and trusts his mentor Colonel Abhay Singh (Manoj Bajpayee) a lot. But when the young Army officer discovers that the Army’s image is being threatened by corrupt arms dealers and businessmen, Jai gathers evidence of the conspiracy and does a runner instead of informing his mentor about it, who begins believing that Jai has gone rogue and is a turncoat.
After a cat-and-mouse game from New Delhi to London, Abhay finally succeeds to corner Jai and learns the truth behind his actions and what he does after it, forms the rest of the plot.
Veteran Manoj Bajpayee is brilliant as Abhay Singh and dominates the screen whenever he is in it. While, Sidharth Malhotra is Ok with his performance. Rakul Preet Singh, who essays Sidharth’s hacker girlfriend, has nothing to do much. The rest of the cast including talented actors like Rajesh Tailang, Kumud Mishra, Anupam Kher, Naseeruddin Shah, Vikram Gokhale and Adil Hussain are OK with their provided scenes.
As for the narrative, it is little sluggish. There is no need of introducing a situation reminiscent of the Adarsh Housing scam, which has no link to the plot involving arms dealers. It has quite a few sluggish scenes that are long-drawn and don’t do much to further the narrative or add to the characters. The complexity of the central plot allows for some explanation, but the screenplay goes overboard and often loses pace. Those expecting the intelligent Neeraj Pandey twists will be left wanting more.
Overall, ‘Aiyaary’ is worthy to watch once for Manoj Bajpayee’s brilliant act.
