ABOUT 2.0
After Enthiran (2010), Shankar and Rajinikanth have yet again team up for 2.0. Rajinikanth’s enthusiasts went into a state of frenzy as 2.0 hit the theaters on Thursday. Chitti is bigger, better and reloaded this time. The first part of the film mainly has Rajinikanth and if you are a fan of the megastar, you would love the humour and action he gets on board as Chitti - The Robot. Amy Jackson essays a robot and does an remarkable job as she fits in the role well.
The movie starts with an old man (Akshay) committing suicide from a mobile tower. Next day, all the cell phones in the city of Tamil Nadu suddenly start getting disappeared and it creates a chaos in the city. An eerie force has taken over the city and is snatching away everybody’s cell phones and is uprooting mobile towers. Soon people encounter a huge angry bird made of mobile phones, who is killing mobile phone users, network chiefs and corrupts ministers and destroying the city.
When the ministers of the city realise that this is beyond any human control, they give an order to Vasigaran to finally get back Chitti. Wondering what happened to all the cell phones? Well, all of them were formed into a gigantic bird that has been controlled by a negative aura of a dead person who is taking revenge on mankind for harming birds with mobile phone radiation. To combat this sinful power the government takes Dr. Vaseegaran’s (Rajinikanth) help who suggests to bring his creation Chitti (Rajinikanth) back. Chitti fights against Pakshirajan (Akshay Kumar) but something goes awry and Chitti gets destroyed. A new version of Chitti, 2.0 is created to fight Pakshirajan with the help of another humanoid, Nila (Amy Jackson). What happens then forms the rest of the plot.
Rajinikanth’s act is remarkable and has played all his avatars in his own style. He shows his unique style as he plays 2.0. While evergreen star Akshay Kumar is essaying Pakshirajan and he is fantastic. He also has two avatars in the film, one of an old ornithologist and other of the mutant bird like creature and his convincing act is watchable. His look is interesting and the makeup artists need to be applauded for that. Amy Jackson is essaying Nila, another humanoid robot created by Vaseegaran. Her character didn’t need her to emote much but she has a significant role to play in the film and she is also looking very appealing on screen. Sudhanshu Pandey is essaying the son of the previous film’s antagonist and he does good job as per his scenes in this sci-fi.
The movie carries forward the tale of Robot but, even if you have not seen the original, you will simply understand 2.0. The first half of the film is enthralling but, the second half is little dragged. The message that the movie conveys is imperative but it's very preachy. They could have made it more fascinating with a better story.
Director Shankar has dragged numerous scenes needlessly and numerous sequences also look monotonous. No doubt, VFX and technological aspects are top notch. Till now, the only best part is Rajinikanth himself, and for sure, the reloaded version of Chitti. Right before the interval, we get to see a glimpse of Akshay Kumar.
Film 2.0 doesn’t have any song and it was a good call. Action sequences are astounding and when two megastars like Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar come face-to-face, the viewers are bound to get an adrenaline rush.
Cinematography is top notch but the screenplay is very feeble and so is the editing. The tale is quite foreseeable. The movie has some good dialogues.
Overall, 2.0 is worthy to watch once for some miraculous visual effects and arresting act of Akshay Kumar and Rajinikanth.
