I kept doing action films for 14 years, there was no growth, says Akshay Kumar!

In the present time, Bollywood star Akshay Kumar has been giving back-to-back hits. His movies not only enter the 100-crore club but they are also critically acclaimed. In his latest release Gold, Akshay essays the role of a Hockey coach named Tapan Das. The movie has mainly received a positive response from the viewers and the criticizers.

 

In a media chat, Akshay Kumar revealed that this is the best phase in his career. "This is the best phase for me as an actor. I was always wary of having an image. When I came in the film industry I was given action hero tag, no one would offer me a romantic or comedy film, only action films were offered to me," revealed Akshay Kumar.

 

At the starting of his career, for a long time, Akshay Kumar did a lot of action movies. He was named as the action hero or Khiladi Kumar of Bollywood. But Akshay Kumar disclosed that doing actions movie hindered his growth. Akshay specified, "I kept doing action films for 14 years. There was no growth. I would call this as the best phase as I can do lot of things like Kesari, as an action film, Housefull 4 as a comedy film and some socially-relevant movies. I get to play so many characters and do all kind of films."

 

He further added, "It was a difficult phase. It was hard to break an image and come out of it and I feel lucky I could do so."

 

Akshay disclosed that he thanked David Dhawan and Rajkumar Santoshi for offering him different kind of movies. He credited director Priyadarshan for giving him comedy movies. Akshay revealed, "I also have to thank David Dhawan who gave me Me Aur Mrs Khiladi and Rajkumar Santoshi for Khakee. Things started changing since then."
