After film Rangoon’s box office failure, Vishal Bhardwaj is back with Pataakha, a film adaptation of a short story titled ‘Do Behnein’ by Charan Singh Pathik. 'Pataakha' tells the story of two feral, warring sisters who love to hate each other. Set in Rajasthan, the film has a rustic charm that can easily relate with the viewers.
Film ‘Pataakha’ spins around a pair of sisters (Sanya Malhotra and Radhika Madan), who can’t stand the sight of each other ever since they were kids, much to the dismay of their widower father (Vijay Raaz) and much to the glee of their childhood friend Dipper (Sunil Grover), who enjoys his role as an agent provocateur.
When the two sisters fall in love with and end up wedding a pair of brothers, they realize that the only way to get rid of each other is by aggravating animosity between the two brothers they are married to… Does the plan work or do the sisters end up burying the hatchet?
The relationship between Badki and Chutki is captivating. The actresses are skin deep into their roles and put forth an appealing act on-screen. Radhika Madan makes a mark with her debut performance while Malhotra does a fabulous job in her rugged avatar. Other star cast as Sunil Grover, Vijay Raaz and Namit Das are OK in their respective acts.
Film ‘Pataakha’ is at best a story that has been stretched for more than an hour. The situational humour will make you roll with laughter. Vishal Bhardwaj weaves magic with his screenplay and uses the metaphor of these two sparring sisters to pass on a strong sociopolitical message.
Overall, film Pataakha is worthy to watch once for good performances and strong sociopolitical message.
