FUKREY RETURNS

Fukrey Returns

ABOUT FUKREY RETURNS

MOVIE RATING
In 2013, Pulkit Samrat, Varun Sharma, Pankaj Tripathi, Manjot Singh and Ali Fazal had teamed up for Fukrey, a story about four hopeless youngsters who tangle with a female don (Richa Chadha) and the movie was a surprising success at the box office, which made us hopeful about the sequel too.

As per story, Bholi Punjaban (Richa Chadda) is out of the jail to make life difficult for the four boys who conned her in the original, Fukrey (2013). They are still in the lottery business, thanks to Chu Cha’s (Varun Sharma) prophecies and Honey’s (Pulkit Samrat) unique calculation technique. They rub a Delhi politician Babulal Bhatia (Rajiv Gupta) the wrong way and now they have to pay for it.

The Fukras and their loyal friend Panditji (Pankaj Tripathi) are picked up and asked to cough up an enormous amount of money to be paid to a corrupt neta, who wants remuneration for getting Bholi released. How this turns their lives upside down yet again, forms the rest of the plot.

All the four lead actors have done a good job, though Sharma somewhat gets on your nerves with his tomfoolery at times. Richa is not as threatening as she was in the prequel, but this only serves to make her more compassionate. Pankaj Tripathi is very good with his dialogues and act.

The scenes and circumstances in the prequel were funnier and the romance quotient was high too with songs like ‘Ambarsariya’. Unhappily, the sequel has none of the likeable qualities the prequel had.

The music is not up to the mark.

Fukrey Returns tries too hard to go the thriller way. It’s much more ‘heroic’ than what the viewers expected Chu Cha and his group to be. The bromance between Honey and Chu Cha works initially and then turns out to be an irksome affair. Between Fukrey and Fukrey Returns, Pulkit Samrat and his friends have lost their innocence.

Overall, Fukrey Returns is worthy for its entertainment quotient and a few good acts.
